  • Why You Need a Firewall

I have been having a firewall on my PC since the beginning of my adventures with computers and the internet. In case you wonder if you should have one too, then my answer is definitely yes if you have internet access on your computer. It is true that when you go to the internet you become visible to the rest of the world and most importantly to hackers, spammers, virus senders and all other malicious type of people. You are visible, simply because you are using ports. The
purpose of firewall is to close the ports that you are not currently using so that nobody will disturb you. I witnessed my firewall catch unwabted things so many times on my PC that I am very happy to have it.

    Glovephone

Phones are a really useful device and since people starting using mobile phone they became even more useful. Until we had mobile phones we had to be available to pick up the phone at our home or office, which often resulted in missed phone calls. Mobile phones were universally accepted as a superior solution and this can be backed up by the number of them sold. But what if I told you that you could have a phone built in your glove? A Serbian designer invented a Bluetooth phone device built into a glove which could be a great solution in really cold weather. I don’t know if the device will become popular, but you have to admit that the idea sounds really interesting.

    Reading Magazines Online?

Since the internet became more and more popular, we also observed the trend of magazines starting to be available online as well. We live in times when people spend an awful amount of time at computers and it seems that this trend is going to continue. That is why many magazine publishers are creating digital versions of their magazines. Some even say that the future of magazine publishing is on a digital display. Actually there are some companies which only deal with creating digital versions of magazines and while they claim that their goal is not to eliminate traditional form of magazines, it is clear that they are contributing to it.

    Boxing Rematch

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are both world famous boxing starts difficult to defeat. Many of you probably remember the last big match that took place on May 5th, 2007. Even though Floyd Mayweather Jr. won over La Hoya in 12 rounds by split decision, the rematch is going to take place this Fall, on September 20th, 2008. The previous fight between those two boxing champions was very lucrative and brought $120 million in revenue. The fight will take place in Las Vegas – the city known as a place for entertainment and leisure activities.
For me sports events are very enjoyable to attend. Even though I do not consider myself to be an athlete myself, I enjoy looking at others performing sporting activities. Boxing is very unique in its way. Not many people are actually brave enough to become boxers as practicing the sport might cost a lot of injuries. Since I like attending sporting events I am already thinking about acquiring De La Hoya/Mayweather tickets. The fight is only less than four months away and it is better to make necessary reservations right now. If you also enjoy boxing as much as I do, do not hesitate to make your plans for September 20th, 2008.

Is Laptop for You? Part 2

Earlier today I wrote 3 questions every person who wants to buy a laptop should ask himself. In this post I would like to continue this subject as I think that it is worth mentioning. I have a laptop and a PC myself and there are advantages and disadvantages of both of them, but there was a time when I only had a laptop and was not completely satisfied with it.

    1. Will you be comfortable while sitting in from of it? Laptop is generally not that comfortable to be near since the keyboard, screen and the main case are joined together.
    2. Will the laptop serve as your main computer? If not, the purchasing one is a good idea.
    3. Do you want to save a lot of space? If yes, then laptop is a good choice for you.

    Is Laptop for You?

For some reasons you might prefer to buy a laptop rather than a regular PC, maybe because you move a lot from place to place and you would like to avoid carrying monitor and case with you. However, before you buy a laptop there are a few questions you should ask yourself:

    1. Do you spend a lot of time in front of your computer? If yes, then a PC is better choice for you since laptop cannot be that easily repaired.
    2. Are you a hardcore computer gamer? Keep in mind that as the technology advances your laptop might not be able to handle newer 3D games.
    3. Will you be happy with its smaller keyboard? If not, then do not even bother to buy one.

    Street View in Europe?

    steetview.jpg
Google is quite proud of their project “Street View”, but the question is whether the EU will approve it. Street View basically provides panoramic street-level views of important locations and allows users to view photos in different sizes, from any direction, and from a variety of angles. Why would the EU not like something about Street Views? The answer is that there are issues with privacy, as many people would be potentially visible on those photos and obviously Google doesn’t plan to pay them for it or even ask for their permission. On the bright side Google has stated that the faces of people will be automatically blurred, but will it be good enough?
