Choosing Between Browsers?

Which browser should I choose? This is the question which many people ask, while others spend hours upon hours in order to prove that their browser is superior. While I also have a browser preference, this is not really what I wanted to talk about this time, as I rather want to point out something. With so many browsers advertising that they are the best, we often feel like we have to make a specific choice and that is not really the case. Some people might not know it, but you can actually have multiple browsers installed on your computer. You can use Firefox, IE or Opera interchangeably and you are not limited to just one. You may wish to use Firefox when accessing dangerous sites, as Firefox is the safest browser, but you may also want to use Internet Explorer when you want to open some of your bookmarked pages. On the other hand you can use Opera when you feel like you want to quickly jump from one tab to another. Don’t limit yourself.

Buying Electronics in USA or Europe?

Where do you think it is better to buy electronics in Europe or USA? The most important aspect is the price and if we look at that USA has a lot cheaper prices. Many claim that this is due to the fact that dollar is not worth a lot anymore, but this makes buying products in USA very attractive. If you compare prices of electronics, then you will see that often a computer for $X in America is going to cost €X in Europe. Since American dollar is worth a lot less then euro, it is safe to say that a lot of equipment costs 50% more in Europe. Currently dollar is worth 0.69 European cents, so think twice before buying expensive equipment is Europe, it might be cheaper to buy a ticket to USA.

Online Auctions a Way of Life?

Since I created my account on eBay I bought a lot of products and all of them were cheaper compared to the same products I would buy at my local store. The key in finding a low priced item is to find a marketplace where there are a lot of sellers. A lot of sellers translates into a lot of competition and competition forces lower prices. That is why smaller towns have higher prices compared to large cities. There simply isn’t enough competition. On the other hand auction sites like eBay have thousands of sellers willing to sell their items at bargain prices. EBay may not be the best place to sell, but it certainly is an attractive place to buy. When I look for a specific item, I like comparing prices and online auctions allow me to browse quickly and look at different offers. If I wanted to buy for example a computer component it would take me hours to compare the prices in all of the retails outlets in my city, but it is a lot easier online. What we are currently observing is that online auctions are becoming a way of life for a growing number of consumers.

1 Million Concurrent Chinese Players

World of Warcraft is currently the most popular Massive Multiplayer Online Game. It sold millions of copies and that is probably due to the fact that it is accessible even for young players due to low difficulty, it is friendly for casual players and because the creators (Blizzard) of World of Warcraft are spreading this game all over the world. Conquering the Chinese market has been an objective for Blizzard for a long time and it seems that they achieved this goal as World of Warcraft exceeded 1 million concurrent Chinese players logged at the same time. The Chinese authorities from the very beginning were not in awe of the game and even prohibited some parts of the game to be realized in China, but it seems that the voice of the consumers is stronger and that Chinese people are really eager to partake in the Western culture.

Online Sales Growing

The online sales are expected to grow this year almost by 20% per cent compared to last year according to Forrester Research, an online analyst. While traditional shop retailers are struggling, the online business seems to thrive and grow rapidly. Brick-based retailers are facing a very strong competition as items offered online are usually cheaper and the possibilities of choice are wide. Have you ever wondered what people buy while shopping on the web? You would be surprised to learn. They buy things and services ranging from travels, electronic, cars and many, many others. People are capable of literally selling everything on the internet. I myself shop mainly that way (excluding groceries as there is a supermarket near a place where I live). I enjoy shopping online a lot and even though I cannot touch the object that I intend to buy, the wide selection of items available on the net and the opportunity to compare the prices makes up for it.

Detecting Weapons and Explosives from 25 Meters

Recently a camera has been developed that is able to detect weapons, drugs, explosive sand other objects from a distance of 25 meters. It can detect those items, even if they are hidden under clothes. The camera, called T5000, has been developed by a company called ThruVision and can identify objects by natural electromagnetic rays known as Terahertz. Apart form the ability to detect objects beneath clothes, it can also detect objects while in motion. There have been some concerns about the camera revealing physical body details, but the company claims that that will not happen. The camera is also supposed to be harmless to our health. While the technology looks very promising, I think we can also imagine that it could be used for evil, for example in robberies or other situations. This way a thief would know exactly where you keep some valuable items.

Internet Gaining on Popularity

I stumbled upon an informative website, which offers data pertaining to internet users all around the world. Basically it estimates how many users are on each continent among other things. Analyzing the data lead to some interesting discoveries. Speaking from experience I an say that there is a common misconception among Americans that they constitute the majority of internet users and that North America has the most internet users. This was probably true many years ago, but during the last decade (2000-2008) the number of internet users in Africa, Asia and Europe grew 882%, 346% and 231% respectively. On the other hand the number of internet users in North America grew 120%. Other continents are catching up to North America and actually Asia and Europe already have more internet users then North America has. Of course, another factor is how many hours per day a person is using internet.

Skype and PSP

Skype is a software program which allows users to make phone calls from their computer to landlines and cell phones. It also allows for free voice communication between Skype users. Playstation Portable, which is often abbreviated as PSP on the other hand is a highly successful video game system created by Sony. What do those two things have in common one might ask? Sony plans to integrate Skype into their portable gaming system. This would allow PSP users to make free or cheap phone calls directly from their PSP. I believe that this will make PSP a lot more attractive, as the possibility of calling anyone else who uses PSP for free can be a huge saving for many people. Skype will definitely benefit from this arrangement as well.

Are Plasma TVs Any Good?

Plasma TVs are a relatively new invention and as every new invention they are supposed to be better than their predecessors. Plasma screens are made of thousands pixels (red, green and blue) which are electrically charged by argon, neon and xenon gases. This whole combination generates light and as a result a final picture. Plasma TVs have many advantages: they offer good pricing for their quality, they have the biggest flexibility when it comes to seeing the screen from many different angles. Definitely the biggest pros of plasma TVs is its superior color saturation, great black levels and mentioned by me earlier wide viewing angles. However, there are also cons. Plasma TV does not live long comparing to other types of TV and there is a risk of potential pixel problems.

Adding Destinations to the “Send To” Command

“Send To” command is used to transfer files and documents from one place to another within the same computer. There is already a list of default destinations where you can send your files like Desktop or MyDocuments, but you can always add your own, new destinations. To do this follow those steps:

1. Click Start, then Run and type here sendto. Press OK button.
2. You will immediately see a window with default “Send To” list.
3. At this stage you can paste any file or folder to add to this list (or just drag it here).
4. You can check if the changes have been saved by right clicking on a document of your choice from a desktop and going to “Send To” menu.
5. If you want to delete any destination you entered, go back to “Send To” options and make your choice.

I have used this feature a few times in the past, and it is especially useful for sorting files on your computer.
